The most famous landmark of Easter Island is the Moai, giant stone statues that stand in silent tribute to the island’s history. Many of these statues were toppled during wars, but some have been raised back into place and are very popular with visitors. The white sand beaches of Anakena and Ovahe are hidden gems and sport palm trees imported from Tahiti. Diving is popular, and because of its extensive cave system, spelunking is a great attraction of the island.
