Destination - Easter Island

There are many names for the magical Easter Island, Rapa Nui, Te pito O Te Henura, Isla de Pascua or Navel of the Earth but to truly understand how special it is then a visit is absolutely essential. Located in the centre of the Pacific Ocean it was formed about two million years ago following the eruption of three underwater volcanoes. It is said that 7 people came to the island and landed on Anakena beach hundreds of years ago and from those 7 the mighty civilization was built. At it’s height there where 10,000 Easter islanders but after starvation, civil war and disease from the Europeans travelers that number reduced to a few hundred. The Stone Heads or Moai are ceremonial burial chambers or alters or Ahu’s which are said to lead the Easter islanders safely into the afterlife. There are many ways to explore the island using organised tours and guides or by hiring a car for the day. Also you must account for the $60 USD charge when you enter Easter Island and the National Park fees.

Without a doubt, Easter Island is a must to any traveler who wants to know and explore the hidden secrets of this incredible civilization.
