Just 3 hours drive east of Rio de Janeiro lies Buzios. Originally a small fishing village but ‘discovered’ by Brigitte Bardot in 1964, this is now one of the most famous and most stylish beach resorts in Brazil. With no high rise buildings the resort has retained its charm - making it an ideal destination to relax at a beachside café, sip a caipirinha and dine on delicious freshly caught fish.
Sitting on a peninsula jutting out into the clear blue seas of the Atlantic, the area offers 25 beaches making it an ideal and safe destination for family holidays, whilst also providing plenty of opportunity for scuba diving, snorkelling, schooner trips and other watersports for those wanting to remain active, as well as lively bars to while away the evenings.
Popular beaches include Geriba, Ferradura and Ossos, all of which are easily accessible in the ubiquitous beach buggies that can be hired locally. Cabo Frio is a good destination for a day excursion from Buzios.
