Destination - Torres del Paine National Park

Torres del Paine, taking its name from the Tehuelche word Paine meaning ‘blue’ and the word Torres meaning ‘towers’ is considered by most, as South America's finest National Park, which is home to huge towering peaks that were created during the Ice Age and are still topped with glaciers today. The park, covering an area of 242,242ha, is to the north of Puerto Natales, and is recognised as one of the fifty wonders of the world and was declared a Biosphere Reservation by UNESCO in 1978. The two Cuernos (the Horns) and the Torres (Towers) are surrounded by a string of aquamarine, emerald and turquoise Lakes. This beautiful setting has made a fantastic destination for hikers and backpackers, ecology-lovers and adventure sportsmen alike. Snow-capped mountain tops, cascading rivers, waterfalls and glaciers.

Getting to Torres del Paine
A bus journey from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales will take 3 hours with a full day excursion into the Park from Puerto Natales the following day. A newly built road reduces the journey time to the park from Puerto Natales to about 2 hours. Alternatively you can take a bus journey from El Calafate which will take 3 hours and get collected by your guide from Chile/Argentina border.

Climate

In summer (December through March), highs of 23°C (73°F), lows between 1°C and 4°C (34-39° F). In winter, 3°C and -5°C (37 and 23°F), respectively. Total rainfall amounts to about 670 mm (26.4 in) a year, spread throughout the year and falling as snow in winter.
