Highlight - Southern Austral Road

PROGRAMMED DISTANCE 800km/498 miles approx. 07 Days / 6 Nights

Explore the Southern part of the Austral Road, beginning in Coyhaique and ending in Caleta Yungay. Almost completely made of gravel, this road submerges visitors in a world of incomparable and awe-inspiring beauty. This long road, passes by the most attractive places in Chilean Patagonia, giving the perfect opportunity to discover mountains, National Parks, fiords, hot springs, rivers and lakes - the latter ideal for sports fishing. Visit small cities and villages filled with history and traditions.

DAY 01: BALMACEDA - COYHAIQUE  Depart from the airport in Balmaceda. Drive across the Austral road until arrival at Coyhaique (45 Km. paved road). Accommodation at hotel.

DAY 02: COYHAIQUE - PUERTO GUADAL Today the route will bring you to the South until reaching Puerto Guadal (277 Km. paved and non-paved road duration 5 hours approx. ) On the way you will be able to discover the village of Villa Cerro Castillo, Puerto Rio Tranquillo on the shore of the General Carrera Lake, and its “Marble Chapels ”. Accommodation at hotel.

DAY 03: PUERTO GUADAL We recommend a Visit to Valle Exploradores (170 Km altogether). Main Atractions: Lago Tranquilo, La Nutria waterfalls, Lago Bayo, Exploradores Park & Exploradores Glacier, La Teresa. Alternatively, any activities or hikes around Puerto Guadal (several options). Accommodation at hotel.

DAY 04: PUERTO GUADAL - CALETA TORTEL Driving south to Caleta Tortel (203 Km. non-paved road), you will see the confluence of Baker & Nef Rivers pass the area of Cochrane and following the road submerged into a valley surrounded by snow peaks. Caleta Tortel the final destination is a village located on Baker Fjord, where the streets have been replaced by footbridges. Accommodation at hotel.

DAY 05: CALETA TORTEL - COCHRANE Driving back north to Cochrane (128 Km.), you will see the “Cochrane Lake”, Tamango Reserve, San Lorenzo Hill amongst other incredible lanscapes. Accommodation at hotel.

DAY 06: COCHRANE - PUERTO GUADAL  Depart north towards Puerto Guadal (75 Km.), In the afternoon we recommend a drive on the southern shore of General Carrera Lake and / or having a hike to the “fossil” mointain. Accomodation at hotel.

DAY 07: PUERTO GUADAL - BALMACEDA Depart to Balmaceda (241 Km.) airport to return the vehicle (5 hours approx).
